Accreditation delivers another string to our bow

Hot on the heels of the New Year fireworks, 2018 has started with a brilliant bang for the James Foley Electrical team, as we’re celebrating achieving an impressive new accreditation.
James and colleague Steve Rowley have succeeded in undertaking a rigorous training course to enable them to work in hazardous areas. CompEx (which stands for Competency in Ex atmospheres) is a global certification scheme for electrical and mechanical professionals working in potentially explosive atmospheres, and this certification validates the core competency of practitioners working in such environments.
The scheme is broken down into 12 units covering different actions and hazardous area concepts, and upon successful completion candidates receive the CompEx Certificate of Core Competency, which is valid for five years.
This adds yet another string to our bow as it opens the door for us to work with industrial clients who operate in hazardous atmospheres, such as filling stations, refineries, paint booths and flour mills, to name just a few. This kind of electrical work is considered very specialist and we are now one of a handful of electrical contractors in this region who are technically equipped to handle this area of works.
James said: “The course was extremely rigorous. It’s a very different and hugely interesting field of expertise involving meticulous record-keeping and the constant monitoring of risks.
“Within the team we do already have experience of working in spray booths, docks and filling stations – but this new accreditation now means we are now fully qualified to work in any type of setting and can offer the full gamut of services to clients, including testing, installations and remedial work.
“It also allows us to deal with the most sophisticated electrical installations, including terminating and testing of specialist pyro cable wiring.”
This is just the latest example of how we aim to stay at the leading edge of developments in our industry and ensure we are constantly updating our skills set to meet the needs of new and existing customers.
